How do I learn a foreign language in an online language course?
In addition to diligence and perseverance, you always need a good measure of joy when learning. Otherwise you will quickly lose interest and the initial motivation will be gone. It’s not a matter of rote memorisation of vocabulary lists or cramming grammar rules. First and foremost, you should acquire communicative skills in the foreign language so that you can make yourself understood.
Constructivism or why cramming vocabulary makes no sense
You may have heard of constructivism. In foreign language teaching, we use this concept to help you learn a foreign language in a sustainable and meaningful way. This means that we discuss concrete situations and vocabulary and grammar are learned more or less along the way. In the process, you acquire, or “construct”, exactly the knowledge you need. In this way, you acquire competences instead of just memorising rules and words.
Therefore, it is advisable to find a way to integrate the foreign language you want to learn into your everyday life. For example, if you have a hobby, you could search the internet for foreign websites or forums. Maybe you like to cook? Why not try cooking a typical Spanish or Polish recipe in the respective language? Whatever your way, the main thing is that you enjoy it. That way you won’t even notice that you are actively learning the new language. We are happy to accompany you on this path in our face-to-face or online language courses.
