Is Spanish only spoken in Spain?

As you probably already know, Spanish is also spoken in other parts of the world. The 30 or so countries where Spanish is spoken include Mexico, South and Central America, Colombia, Argentina and the Caribbean. There are more than 500 million native Spanish speakers worldwide. This makes Spanish the second most spoken native language, ahead of Mandarin Chinese. So it’s worth learning this important and widespread language!

Is Spanish difficult to learn?

No, fortunately it is not. Spanish (español) or Castilian (castellano), the synonymous name for the Spanish language, is relatively easy to learn compared to other languages. Spelling is less of a problem for many learners because words are pronounced sound by sound. Other points that make learning easier are that there is no declension of nouns. In German, nouns are changed depending on the case, i.e. nominative, accusative, dative or genitive. In Spanish, only the article is adjusted. And that’s another piece of good news: there are only two articles whose usage is quite clear. If you already know about the English tenses, you already have a good head start, because there are some similarities here. Of course, in addition to the rather simple rules, Spanish grammar also has a good number of less easy-to-understand topics. But with the right teacher, a clear explanation and a little practice, you will be speaking Spanish faster than you might have expected.
